How to spend a weekend in and around Bryanston.

Updated: Jul 25, 2021

With an ever growing cultural, outdoor and foodie scene, Joburg has countless activities and places to explore over the weekends. Although you can explore further afield, here are our ideas on how to spend a weekend within the Bryanston-Sandton area.

A morning at the Bryanston Organic and Natural Market

On a Saturday morning, head out to the Bryanston Organic and Natural Market. The market is Joburg's oldest outdoor market being 44 years old. The market is known for its fresh organic and naturally grown produce as well as its delicious range of deli food. Artisanal roasted coffee, fresh bread and honey are some of our favourites.

With 4 eateries, and lots of fun activities for kids, the market is a great place to shop and relax with some live music. If you like to cook, you will find some amazing local ingredients to craft a meal in your cottage’s kitchen.

Market Hours

Saturdays 09:00 – 15:00

Thursdays 09:30-13:00

An afternoon walk

Riverside Park

We are lucky to be situated within walking distance to beautiful Riverside Park. Head out for a tranquil afternoon walk, run or picnic. The river running through the park, (the Spruit) attracts incredible birdlife to look and listen out for. With a running track and nearby restaurants, this is a great way to spend time outdoors for individuals and families.

Park Run also takes place at Riverside Park, starting off at Riverside Shopping Centre every Saturday at 08:00am.

Location: The River Rd, Bryanston, Sandton.

Hamilton’s Park

Hamilton’s Park is a small green treasure for locals being a beautiful family and dog friendly park. The park is fenced-off allowing dogs to run off-leash. Hamilton’s has a playground and is lovely for a stroll at any time during the day.

Location: Cambridge Rd, Sandton

Experiencing a Joburg Sun-downer

One of Joburg’s best hidden gems for a sun-downer family or friends is Higher Ground Restaurant at St Stithian’s School. Perched above a green field, the restaurant has a magnificent view of the Sandton CBD and green belt of Joburg. Though the sun does not set in direct view, it is spectacular to see the light change, and the city lights come on. The atmosphere is very relaxed and family friendly.

We recommend having a meal here too from their unfussy and hearty à la carte menu. On a Friday evening, you are likely to catch some live music while you experience a famous Joburg sunset.

Location: 40 Peter Place, Lyme Park, Sandton, 2060
